‘All Shook Up’ coming to city

Elvis is coming to Vicksburg in January, sort of, but for only one night.

The musical “All Shook Up,” which lasted on Broadway for 233 performances in 2005, will show at the Vicksburg Auditorium at 8 p.m. Jan. 21, a Friday.

Set in a sleepy Ohio town, the story is one of a Midwestern community that gets turned on its ear when a rebellious-looking rock ’n’ roller named Chad — and similar to the King of Rock ’n’ Roll Elvis Presley — roars into town on a motorcycle.

The town’s auto mechanic, a tomboy named Natalie, is among the girls who swoon at his arrival, and she sets her cap for him, going so far as disguising herself as a man to win his friendship.

The problem comes when Chad falls for the shapely museum curator, Miss Sandra.

What happens next involves the classic “who loves who” mixups and highly charged song and dance routines that show the quiet town how to rock.

The show features more than 24 Elvis hits, including “Hound Dog,” “That’s All Right” and “Love Me Tender.”
