Vicksburg man charged in arson on Farmer Street

A Vicksburg man has been charged with the arson and burglary of a home at 1203 Farmer St.
Shandrick Montgomery, 32, is accused of breaking into the home and starting a fire in the kitchen, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
“Police found a comforter had been placed on the stove and the stove was turned on,” said Stewart.
Firefighters responded about 3:26 p.m. and contained the blaze, Stewart said. No one was at home, he said.
Montgomery was in the Warren County Jail with no bond set.
Police on lookout for suspect in shots
Police have named a suspect in a shooting Tuesday night in the 100 block of Hickshill Lane.
Terrance Wright, 26, is being sought for arrest for firing three or four shots into the home, Lt. Bobby Stewart said. Wright will face charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling and three counts of attempted aggravated assault, Stewart said. No one was reported injured.
Police are asking anyone with information on Wright to call 601-636-2511.
City pair questioned in Jackson carjacking
A Vicksburg man and woman were being held at police headquarters this morning, questioned for driving a white 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe reported stolen during an armed carjacking Aug. 30 in Jackson.
During a traffic stop at 1:49 this morning in the 4000 block of North Frontage Road for an improper tag, police detained Edward Harris, 34, 1112 Grammar St., and Kristina Latimer, 24, 1223 Harrison St., said Lt. Bobby Stewart.
“Upon running the VIN (vehicle identification number), we found the vehicle had been stolen,” Stewart said.
The two were being held for Jackson police.
City woman charged with embezzlement
A Vicksburg woman has been charged with embezzlement.
Cretoina Nickson, 36, 1842 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, is accused of taking $29,065 from Bingo Payday Check Cashing from August to February, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said. She had been employed at the 2415 Clay St. business.
“She didn’t show up after Feb. 22 when (the owner) started asking questions,” said Stewart.
Nickson was in the Warren County Jail on a $10,000 bond on the embezzlement charge. She was also being held for a probation violation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Seat belt citation leads to drug charges
A traffic stop for a seat belt violation Wednesday led to a drug bust in the 100 block of Alcorn Drive.
At 11:33 a.m., police charged Cortney Johnson, 18, 1009 Greenview Drive, with possession of marijuana and possession of ecstasy, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said. Johnson was in the Warren County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
City man held on drug charge
A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail today on Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics charges, records showed.
Stanley Taylor, 27, 4208 Halls Ferry Road, was held without bond for possession of more than one ounce of marijuana. He was awaiting an initial court appearance.
Weapons, electronics among missing items
Weapons and electronics were hot in six burglaries reported Wednesday in the county and city.
At 4:15 p.m., four rifles, a .22-caliber Ruger handgun and a 19-inch flat-screen TV valued at $300 were reported stolen from a home in the 200 block of Culkin Road, county records showed.
In the city, a Sony CD player valued at $150 was reported stolen from a 1986 Ford Bronco in the 300 block of North Poplar Street at 7:58 a.m., Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
At 2:36 p.m., a Philips 52-inch flat-screen TV valued at $1,900 was reported stolen from a home in the 200 block of Elms Court.
About a half hour later, a DeWalt pressure washer valued at $1,300 was reported stolen from a utility room at a home in the 1000 block of First East Street.
At 5:33 p.m., a 20-inch Sanyo TV valued at $200 was reported stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Grove Street.
A quart of Castrol oil valued at $3, a can of brake fluid valued at $5 and a quart of transmission fluid valued at $3 were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 400 block of Mission 66 at 5:36 p.m.
Buick reported stolen from North Washington
An auto theft was reported Wednesday in the 3500 block of North Washington Street, Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
A black 1986 Buick Park Avenue valued at $1,200 was reported missing. The car had broken down and been left next to a road.
