Bear Head Lake State Park in Minnesota is America’s Favorite Park, a national online contest says.
The Vicksburg National Military Park was part of the survey, but did not rank in the top 10. It was unclear how many votes the VNMP received.
The Minnesota park was awarded $100,000 after gaining more than 28 percent of 5.7 million votes cast in the America Is Your Park campaign, sponsored by the National Park Foundation, Coca-Cola Company and Dr. Ian Smith, a medical/diet expert on VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club” and creator of the nationwide 50 Million Pound Challenge.
The campaign was to encourage people to visit and exercise at their national and state parks.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee came in second, followed by Little Ocmulgee State Park in Georgia, Valley Forge National Historical Park in Pennsylvania, Lapham-Patterson House Historic Site in Georgia, Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park in Florida, Koke’s State Park in Hawaii, Elk Knob State Park in North Carolina, Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park in Georgia and Volo Bog State Natural Area in Illinois.
