Swampy area to be drained in search for man

The search for a missing Warren County man continued early this morning as officials planned to drain a parcel of swamp land so the team can continue looking on foot.

Jason Allen Ashley, 31, was reported missing by family on May 27 and his vehicle was found Friday near the area where Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said the search was centered today.

He said deputies from Warren and Issaquena counties will cross 12,695 acres of Mahannah Wildlife Management Area — on foot and on four-wheelers — once standing water is drained into adjacent Hog Bayou.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks is handling the draining, Pace said.

“This will allow us to search more thoroughly,” he said.

Ashley’s 2000 Jeep was found abandoned Friday in a remote area off Floweree Road near the Issaquena County line, three miles from his home and near the area of the ongoing search by foot and air.

Mahannah, 15 miles north of Vicksburg, consists of bottomland hardwoods, agriculture fields, hardwood reforestation and a waterfowl habitat.
