Child-sex suspect ordered held

A Vicksburg man who faces federal prosecution on two counts of child sexual exploitation will remain without bond in the Madison County Correctional Center, a spokesman with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Jackson said today.

Brian Neihaus, 21, 452 Tilton Ranch Road, was arrested Jan. 29 by FBI agents after a search of his personal computer revealed a video of him sexually assaulting a pre-teen boy.

A detention hearing was held Tuesday for Neihaus at which bond was denied, said Sheila Wilbanks. He remains in the custody of U.S. Marshals.

Resulting from the same investigation, another Vicksburg man, John Crumpler, 2957 Mount Alban Road, has also been charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and remains without bond in the Madison County jail, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Friday.

Sand Hill suspect held for ID theft

A Sand Hill man was extradited to Vicksburg Tuesday night on a warrant charging him with identity theft.

Rodney Bates, 42, 328 Chaffin Lane, was booked into the Warren County Jail after his arrested by Vicksburg police at 9:49 p.m., said Sgt. Sandra Williams. He had been extradited from Madison County, she said.

He initially was arrested by Madison County authorities on a separate charge and later was found to have a warrant dating back to November 2007 in Vicksburg, Williams said.

Bates, who is being held without bond, is accused of using his twin brother’s identity when receiving a citation from Vicksburg police in June 2006, Williams said.

She said his brother found out about the citation and filed a report in November 2007.
