Local pianists’ recital, awards ceremony this afternoon

Piano students of Judith Allen will perform in a spring recital this afternoon.
The performance will begin at 2:30 at First Presbyterian Church’s Ward Hall. Music from a number of eras will be played.
Performers will be Chuck Beamish, Faith Beamish, Sean Daily, Victoria Daily, Chris Deng, Devin Deng, Victoria Gong, Kaylee Kilgo, Sallie Lin, Shaun Lin, Michell Liu, Valarie Pugh and Andrew Wan.
Awards will also be presented.
During the Mississippi Federation of Music Teachers’ District IV-B Keyboard Festival, students played two pieces from memory and took theory exams. Receiving high ratings were Chuck Beamish, Sean Daily, Victoria Daily, Chris Deng, Devin Deng, Shaun Lin, Valarie Pugh and Andrew Wan. Victoria Gong received two small loving cups. Sallie Lin and Shaun Lin achieved two large loving cups. Sallie Lin will advance to the state level to compete for a scholarship to Showcase, a piano camp at the University of Mississippi.
During the Music Forum of Jackson’s Bach Festival, where pianists played Baroque pieces from memory, Victoria Gong, Devin Deng, Sallie Lin and Shaun Lin received superior scores. Sallie Lin also received a gold medal for five years of superior ratings.
During the Mississippi Music Teachers Association’s Vicksburg District Keyboard Festival, where students performed and were tested in theory, keyboard and sight-reading skills, Sean Daily, Devin Deng, Victoria Gong, Sallie Lin and Shaun Lin attained high scores. Devin Deng, Victoria Gong and Sallie Lin qualified for state honors recitals.
During the MMTA’s state competition, held at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Devin Deng, Victoria Gong and Sallie Lin received superior ratings.
Also, Victoria Gong won two gold medals in her grade category — one for a solo performance and another for her presentation of theme and variations.
