This and that|Tapestry tours kick off March 11

The 2010 Tapestry tour of Vicksburg homes will kick off March 11 and run through April 5.

Tapestry presentations will also include collections of antiques, jewelry, period tools and foods, and quilting.

On the tour are Anchuca Historic Mansion, Annabelle, Baer House, The Bazinsky House, Duff Green Mansion, The Corners, Cedar Grove Mansion, Christ Episcopal Church, The Cobb House at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center, The George Washington Ball House, The Jacqueline House African American Museum, Linden Plantation Gardens, The Martha Vick House, The Mary Harwood House, The Shlenker House and the Old Court House Museum.

Tickets are $10 for one home or $25 for three, and are available at the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau on Clay Street.

VAA seeking works for members’ show

The Vicksburg Art Association is seeking entries for its annual members’ spring exhibition, set for March 27-31 at the Firehouse Gallery, Main and Openwood streets.

Entry registration will be from 2 to 4 p.m. March 20 and from 4 to 6 p.m. March 22. The fee is $15 for as many as three pieces. Categories are 3-D, acrylic, computer graphics, drawing, fiber, mixed media, oil, photo-color, photo-mono, print-making and watercolor. A special category for angels in any medium is also available for an additional $3.

Awards will be given, and the works will be for sale.

An opening reception is set for 8 p.m. March 27. Art can be viewed from 1 to 4 p.m. March 28 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 29-31.

Drawing, photos to be taught at SCHC

The Southern Cultural Heritage Center will offer workshops in April and May. Space is limited and reservations are required. Call 601-631-2997 or e-mail info@southernculture.org.

A drawing basics class led by Vicksburg illustrator Jeanie Nicolson will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 13 and 20. Nicolson is a former illustrator for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Cost is $50 for SCHC members and $60 for nonmembers, and supplies are included.

A digital photography workshop will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 27 and May 4. Kathy Gibson, a Vicksburg High School art instructor, will teach. Cost is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers. Participants must bring a camera and batteries.
