Shamrock, the William Porterfield mansion, was abandoned when this photo from the Department of Archives and History was taken in the 1930s, and the home on Oak Street was demolished. Though the front faced the river, the back was identical. Mrs. Porterfield was a relative of Jefferson Davis, and the Confederate president often stayed at her home when he was in Vicksburg.
