John A. Willhite Sr.

TALLULAH ­— John A. Willhite Sr. died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2010, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 84.

Mr. Willhite was born in Ouachita Parish and had lived in Madison Parish for more than 68 years. He was a retired commercial fisherman and a veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Elma V. Willhite of Vicksburg; a son, John A. Willhite Jr. of Crowville, La.; two daughters, Shirley Stephens of Vicksburg and Patricia Hendrix of Delhi; a brother, Glen Willhite of Alto, Texas; two sisters, Emma Lou Dowdy of Ruston, La., and Jeanette Ward of Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Beard officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chris Stephens, Joseph Matthews, James Matthews, Mike Willhite, Kenneth Willhite and Johnny Ray Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. L.P. Neumann and members of the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office and Shreveport Police Department.
