Bessie Mae Smith died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. She was 71.

She was a member of King David Baptist Church No. 2. Her favorite hymns were “Walking Around Heaven,” “Glory, Glory Hallejuah” and “Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross.”

She was born in Vicksburg to Elisha Sr. and Roxie (Givens) Tolliver, who preceded her in death.

Other beloved family members who preceded her in death include, two daughters, Cheryl Denise Tolliver and Darlene Tolliver; three sisters, Annie Tolliver Horton, Mottel Tolliver Doss and Evelyn Givens; and one brother, Elisha Tolliver Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Pat Miller Smith Sr. of Vicksburg; one daughter, Mary Ann Smith Gaines and her husband, Winston, of Indianapolis; one son, Pat Miller Smith Jr. and his wife, Erma, of Delhi, La.; four brothers, Emmanuel Tolliver and his wife, Hattie, of New York, David Tolliver and his wife, Elva, of Vicksburg, Harold Tolliver of Aurora, Ill., and Robert Tolliver of Vicksburg; five sisters, Roxie Tolliver Horton, Cassie Tolliver Parker, Savannah Tolliver Williams and Alene Tolliver Luster and her husband, Mike, all of Vicksburg, and Louise Tolliver Bunch of Detroit; one granddaughter, Bessie Latoya Smith of Vicksburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.
