Ruby Clark Meacham

ATLANTA — Ruby Clark Meacham, 103, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010. She was born in Oakdale, La., April 27, 1907.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edward Levi and Capie Redwine Clark; her husband of 52 years, Tyrus R. Meacham; her son-in-law, G. William Speer; and five siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann M. Speer; five grandchildren, Bill Speer (Julia), Ty Speer, Susan Speer Reese (Trey), Sandra Speer Garrett (Chris), and David Speer (Amy); 10 great-grandchildren, Caitlin, David, Matt and Courtney Garrett, Will, Elizabeth, Sam and Ben Reese, Carson and Anna Speer; four sisters-in-law; 23 nieces and nephews; cousins; and an abundance of friends.
She spent her early years in Pine Prairie, La., then Vicksburg, and moved to Washington, D.C., in 1939. She moved to Atlanta in 2003 to be near family. In Washington, D.C., she was a member of Mount Vernon Place Methodist Church, the Chevy Chase Chapter of the National League of American Pen Women, P.E.O., Chapter L, and Congressional Country Club. She loved writing feature articles and children’s stories and was an avid reader, continuing to write, study and learn until her death.
A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Dobbs Chapel, Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3003 Howell Mill Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30327, reception following. Burial will be in Vicksburg Monday at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m., Riles Funeral Home.
