Employees of Union Forestry Labor work to clear trees in front of the Illinois Memorial in the Vicksburg National Military Park Thursday as part of a project aimed at restoring 80 to 90 acres of the Civil War battlefield to their 1863 appearance. The work, expected to be completed by spring, is budgeted at $314,000. It is being financed through a $300,000 donation from a Houston businessman, other donations and from the park’s general budget.
