Vernon C. Lackey

Vernon C. Lackey died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at his residence. He was 85.
Born in Mena, Ark., he had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past 34 years. Mr. Lackey was the son of the late William Oscar Lackey and Lydia McGee Lackey. He was a retired carpenter specializing in home construction. Mr. Lackey was a member of the Apostolic Church of Vicksburg.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Lackey and Barbara L. Edwards (James), both of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Angel Edwards and Andrew Edwards (Brittney), both of Vicksburg; and a sister, Juanita Moore (Albert) of Van Buren, Ark.
He was predeceased by his wife, Vera Hoover Lackey; son, Jerry Lackey; daughter, Jean Lackey; grandson, Daniel Edwards; and two sisters and six brothers.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Vicksburg Apostolic Church with Pastor John W. Parks officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will start at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Apostolic Church of Vicksburg.
Pallbearers will be John Parks Jr., Glynn Parks, Toby Parks, Cody Parks, Millard Parks, Raymond Edwards, Nick Cloy and William Day.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Emfinger, Wayne Sidebottom, Jimmy Teague, the men of the Apostolic Church of Vicksburg and the staff of Camellia Hospice.
