James Leo Thurman Sr., 91, of Vicksburg, died Sunday, June 5, 2011, at River Region Medical Center.
Mr. Thurman was born in Jackson. He lived most of his life in Vicksburg. He was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Sunday school class and served as deacon.
Survivors include James L. (Brenda) Thurman Jr. and Lyla Sue (Keith) Stennett, all of Vicskburg; grandchildren, Wesley Stennett, Michael Stennett, Jena (Michael) Thurman Fielder and James (Stacy) L. Thurman III; great-grandchildren, Ashton Stennett, Anna Kay Fielder, Caleb Fielder and Clayton Thurman.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Lee Thurman; his mother, Susie Bell Ward Thurman; his wife, Maie Bird Thurman; and a sister, Dorothy M. Deason.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Kent Campbell officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the hour of the service. Burial will follow at Edwards Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Stennett, Michael Stennett, James L. Thurman III, Michael Fielder, K.B. Brown Jr., Mike Brown, David Birdsong and Reed Birdsong.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Vanderberry, William Vanderberry, Paul Vanderberry, Oscar Birdsong Sr., Jim Davidson, George Windham, Jimmy Brown, Stephanie Scott and Woodlawn Senior Sunday school class.
