Natchez thumps Lady Vikes

Ashley Minor was a consistent scoring threat and finished with 26 points to lead Natchez past offensively challenged Warren Central.

WC had more turnovers (24) than it had field goals (eight) and free throws (13) combined. WC coach Jackie Martin gave an apt description of her team’s second loss in two games.

“It was turnover city for us,” Martin said. “I thought we’d be better handling the ball, but we weren’t. We missed 23 free throws and we just don’t have a good scoring option other than (Shegredda) Shorter at this time.”

Shorter, a 6-foot-4 center, had eight points and eight rebounds while playing just half the game as she works on her conditioning. Rolanda Lovett had seven points.

WC trailed 34-8 at the half as Natchez (2-0) took advantage of 17 first-half turnovers.
