Mississippi State has reward coach John Cohen for his team’s run to the NCAA super regionals.

Director of Athletics Scott Stricklin announced Thursday that the school has extended Cohen’s contract through 2015 and given him a pay raise. Cohen’s original contract was set to expire after next season.

The new four-year deal includes an increase in base salary from $250,000 per year to $262,500. Cohen will also continue to receive a salary supplement from the Bulldog Foundation. The total financial package is worth more than $600,000 per year.

“John and his staff have done a tremendous job of leading our baseball program back to national prominence by recruiting top talent and instilling toughness,” Stricklin said in a release. “I look forward to John being our head coach for many years to come.”

This spring, Cohen had his best season in three years as Mississippi State’s coach. The Bulldogs went 38-25 and won the Atlanta Regional. They eventually lost to national runner-up Florida in a tight three-game super regional series.

MSU finished 15th in the final USA Today/ESPN poll. The final ranking and postseason appearance were the first for the program since 2007.
