For a second straight night, a Mississippi Braves starting pitcher got rocked hard in the first inning.
And again, the M-Braves fell thanks to it. The Mobile BayBears hit two home runs off M-Braves starter Kenshin Kawakami in the first inning to ignite a 10-4 rout at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile on Saturday.
After a RBI groundout by Donell Linares and a RBI single by Ernesto Mejia put the M-Braves out front in the top of the first, 2-0, the BayBears went to work. Leadoff man Adam Eaton blasted a single shot off Kawakami. A.J. Pollock and Ryan Wheeler ripped back-to-back doubles as the lead ballooned to 2-0. Marc Krauss added two more with a two-run shot, Jacob Elmore had a sacrifice fly and pitcher Tom Layne doubled as the BayBears hung six on the board in the first frame.
Kawakami lasted just four innings in the loss.
