Vicksburg firefighters work at a house at 921 Polk St. Tuesday evening. Deputy Fire Chief Craig Danczyk said the blaze started around 6:30 p.m. in a clothes dryer in the laundry room and spread through the home and into the attic, gutting much of the house. Firefighters from Station 7, about a block away, responded along with a ladder truck and rescue truck from Central Fire Station, Danczyk said. Jessica Miller, 16, who was home when the fire broke out, was not injured. She and her father, Jessie Miller, were provided with shelter by the Red Cross, Danczyk said. (Pamela Hitchins)
