Thanksgiving Enjoy all of life’s blessings

Because we are blessed to live in this country, there is much for which we should all be thankful.
Even in these harsh economic times, we are truly blessed, and yet it is easy to forget how much we in the U.S. have when compared with residents of so many other countries.
Most of us will be able to sit down with family and friends and enjoy a Thanksgiving feast. For those in our community who can’t do that, there is a remarkable network of individuals, churches and organizations who will share their time and bounty to help provide holiday meals for those who can’t provide for themselves. These churches and groups have seen to it that many of those without family and resources are served good meals by and among people who truly care.
Be thankful for these people who help provide for others. There is ample opportunity for all of us to help take part in these activities far beyond Thanksgiving Day. Needs won’t disappear after we push away from our tables today.
Find a way to help out others this holiday season. The United Way Community Wish List will soon be published in these pages. Read it and find an opportunity to become involved. You’ll be glad you did. Don’t forget that situations can change rapidly, and any of us could find ourselves needing assistance at any time.
Be thankful for our military who serve around the world. Remember to think about all of them in whatever capacity they serve the country. Pray for them and be grateful for their service beyond self. Maybe by next Thanksgiving Day most will have returned home from war and will be able to continue with their lives here at home.
Again, remember that no matter how much we have or don’t have, this is a day to give thanks for all of God’s blessings. May you enjoy this day to the fullest.
