District, 6 schools jump up in state rankings

Six Vicksburg Warren schools, as well as the district as a whole, moved up in the state’s accountability ratings leaving no schools in the district labeled At Risk of Failing, according to a report released Wednesday by the Mississippi Department of Education.

Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Duran Swinford said Wednesday she was “thrilled.”

“…But I don’t live in denial,” she said. “There is still a long road before us in order to continue improving student achievement.”

Each public school district and individual school in the state is ranked annually on a seven-part scale, which is determined by student test scores on the state-mandated MCT2 for third- to eighth-graders and on the Subject Area Tests for junior high and high school students, as well as on a growth component.
