A long, slow drive

An 18-wheeler carrying a giant rotor for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Claiborne County makes its way north on North Washington Street this morning, blocking traffic along the way. The blockades were orchestrated by law enforcement officers along the way, from Kansas City Southern Railway freight yard west of downtown, north on Washington, south on U.S. 61 North, to Interstate 20 West and on to U.S. 61 South, before the rig was to use Warner-Tully Road to get to Grand Gulf. The rotor is part of the power plant’s power-generation upgrade under way that is to be completed next year.
