In Warren County Circuit Court for the week ending Friday, Judge Isadore Patrick issued an order denying the motion of James Dudley Maynord to have fines associated with his 2009 conviction on drug-related charges reduced.

Maynord, 36, 103 Hilldale Drive, was assessed $20,000 in fines and $322.50 in state and court fees in addition to a 10-year prison sentence, following a jury trial in September 2009 in which he was convicted of possession of methamphetamine and possession of precursor chemicals with intent to manufacture the drug.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections placed Maynord on house arrest in October, allowing him to leave the home to work.

Maynord testified at a hearing May 10 that the fines were burdensome and his earnings were not enough for him to afford to pay.

In denying Maynord’s motion, Patrick wrote, “The defendant…admitted that his family business has grossed over a million dollars a year in the past…”

While those past earnings are not necessarily an indication of what the business will earn in the future, Patrick wrote, Maynord has five years to pay with no minimum monthly payments set by the court and can work out a payment agreement with his MDOC probation officer.

Also in Warren County Circuit Court:

• Adolph Carson, 36, 106 Kelly Circle, Apt. A, was found guilty of violating probation and sentenced by Patrick to the MDOC Restitution Center at Hinds, Jackson or Leflore county to pay $3,835.35 in fines, fees and restitution. Carson was arrested Jan. 17, 2009, for uttering a forgery-possession of a counterfeit instrument.

• Joseph J. Mocknick, 24, 212 Dogwood Lake Drive, pleaded guilty to attempted auto burglary and was sentenced by Circuit Judge M. James Chaney to the Ninth Circuit Court Drug Court Program for a period not to exceed five years, plus a $1,000 fine and $997.50 in costs. Mocknick was arrested April 17.

• Eric Lamar Ross, 38, 310 Bellview Drive, was found guilty of violating probation and sentenced by Patrick to the MDOC Restitution Center at Hinds, Jackson or Leflore county to pay $1, 952 in fines, fees and restitution. Ross was arrested Jan. 4, 2006, for sale of cocaine.

In Issaquena County Circuit Court, the grand jury that was to convene Monday has been rescheduled for July 18, due to issues related to the 2011 Mississippi River Flood and cleanup, District Attorney Ricky Smith said.
