Eagles shoot for a knockout

Porters Chapel is just one win away from the MAIS Class A South State championship series and the responsibility for getting the Eagles to the next round rests on some young shoulders.

After ace Montana McDaniel gutted out seven sharp innings in a 7-4 victory over Heidelberg Academy in Game 1, he handed the ball off to the tandem of Talbot Buys, who will start Game 2, and Richie Bufkin, the hero of the District 6-A title series.

Now they’ll just need their defense and hitting to pick them up. Even though the Eagles won Game 3 to clinch the series victory last week over Wayne Academy, neither of their young pitchers got much help from a defense that committed eight errors in the final two games and an offense that has struggled with runners in scoring position at times.
