I just read in The Vicksburg Post about Lauderdale County Supervisors holding improper closed-door meetings. This was the second mention of the same incident.

A few weeks ago there was an article in the Clarion-Ledger about a city councilman going on a trip to Chicago, but the others who were there said none of them saw him at any time. Also, the man responsible for registering them in said he never saw him either.

I do not get the Ledger regularly so I do not know how it turned out. The point I am making is both of these capers were uncovered by local news services that did what they all should do. That is, keeping an eye on local elected officials and printing it so all can know what they have been up to.

The current law, which makes the taxpayers pay for any fine for those violation open meetings laws, is a sad joke. It is a joke that is truly scary. If that law applies to the multimillion-dollar Paw Paw deal I feel an awful lot of voters will be really unhappy.

The last figures I saw on that one was $6 million-plus in lawyer fees that just keep going on until it is settled, I suppose.

They will have to raise property values on everything in sight to pay for something no one really knows anything about.

The sad fact is, we will never know what went down on that deal unless someone from the Clarion-Ledger could be talked into digging up the facts of what all has not been told.

The one thing we do know is, we will never see it in the Post.
