Mississippi Department of Transportation Sgt. John Leslie takes a reading from a log truck on an axle platform scale on Mississippi 27 near East Clay Street Wednesday morning. MDOT was in the area for three days testing data received from the new virtual weigh station near the Big Black River on Mississippi 27, said Chief Willie Huff, director of the MDOT Office of Enforcement. It is a sorting device that checks the weight of a passing truck, the tag number and the Department of Transportation number and queries several databases to make sure all the weight, safety ratings and tags are valid.
