A teenager with family in Vicksburg jumped a fence to escape from the Oakley Training School near Raymond in Hinds County Wednesday, authorities said.
The 17-year-old is described as a light-skinned black youth with short hair, wearing a white T-shirt, said police Lt. Bobby Stewart. He was seen getting into a white car, unknown make, model or tag number, around 5 p.m.
A second teen, reportedly from Lamar County, escaped with him, but Stewart said he had no information about him.
The Vicksburg teen has a record of two arrests, on a burglary charge in July and for burglary and possession of stolen property charges in August, Stewart said. He had been sent to Oakley by the Warren County Youth Court.
The teen has family on Shady Lane, where police have questioned a family member who said he was not there, Stewart said. The investigation is continuing, he said.
Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or the Vicksburg police at 601-636-2511.
Stewart said when captured the youth will be returned to the juvenile system and possible prosecution as an adult.
Oakley Training School is a juvenile correctional facility operated by the Mississippi Department of Human Services. It houses about 150 youths on 1,068 acres surrounded by agricultural fields.
