Rita C. Stegall died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Promise Specialty Hospital in Vicksburg. She was 86.

Mrs. Stegall was born in Brunswick, Maine, and had lived in Vicksburg since 1962. She worked at Lum’s Stockyard for a time and participated for years in the Vicksburg Farmers’ Market. She was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a former Sunday school teacher for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John Henry Stegall; her parents, Joseph and Lucia Coulombe; two sisters; four brothers; and one grandchild, Krista Dian Stegall.

She is survived by a son, George E. Stegall Sr. of Vicksburg; a daughter, Mary S. Buckley of Brandon; two sisters, Marie Cox of Waco, Texas, and Louise Berry of Brunswick; a brother, Remi Coulombe of Topsham, Maine; and three grandchildren, Adrian Peevy and husband James of Austin, Texas, Jonathan Sellers and wife Kelly of Brandon and Alanna Buckley.

Visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Services will follow at 1 p.m. with Monsignor Patrick Farrell officiating and the Revs. James O’Riordan and Noel Prendergrast concelebrating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ben Shaw, Jerome Booth, Eric Duckworth, Steve Burris, Michael Croisdale and Lee Wiles.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Croisdale, George E. Stegall Sr., Dr. Paul Pierce III, Jonathan Sellers, Charles Massey and John Barnes. Special thanks to Mrs. Stegall’s caregivers, Ms. Bobbie Brown of Private Home Care, Promise Specialty Hospital, Medical Associates of Vicksburg and River Region Medical Center.

Memorials in honor of Mrs. Stegall may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church or Vicksburg Catholic School.
