During its regular meeting Monday:
• Took under advisement a personnel matter involving a suspension in the Road Department.
• Approved invoices to County Engineer John McKee for engineering services totaling $6,894.51 on special assessment paving projects in Fairways, Forest Cove and Amberleaf subdivisions.
• Approved a request from District Attorney Ricky Smith to kick in an extra $4,633.34 to the annual salary of newly hired Assistant DA Tom Setser.
In a letter to supervisors last week, Smith said the funds will be diverted from the office’s Worthless Check Fund. The county set aside $73,833.98 to pay a third assistant in the 2011-12 budget.
• Approved Board President Richard George’s signature on a services contract with Patricia Toole for veterans services to the public.
State law stipulates the service be provided on the county-level. Previously, the service was funded and housed from the American Red Cross offices on Cherry Street.
A reorganization of the Red Cross in Mississippi prompted a reworked deal.
The office will be available 30 hours a week, according to the contract.
Supervisors have said Toole will operate from the old E-911 Dispatch Center’s breakroom, in the courthouse basement.
Office hours have not been determined.
• Approved a selection committee to determine administrative, legal and engineering services for a state-funded grant to repair and reinforce Industrial Drive, off E.W. Haining Road at the Port of Vicksburg,
A grant from the Mississippi Department of Transportation will finance the work. Committee members are Warren County Port Commission chairman Johnny Moss, commission secretary Beverly Steward, County Administrator John Smith, Chancery Clerk Dot McGee and Purchasing Agent Tonga Vinson.
