After 30 years of research, a Vicksburg pastor has penned a history of Orthodox Christianity.
The 660-page book by the Very Rev. John W. Morris of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church is called “The Historic Church: An Orthodox View of Christian History.” It is available at www.amazon.com or at the church at 2709 Washington St. The book, self-published through Authorhouse, costs between $18 and $23.
“The Historic Church” is broken into three parts — the ancient church, the Roman Catholic development and the Protestants.
“It was written for the Orthodox Church and for people to understand the Orthodox point of view about some of the misconceptions people have about Christian history,” Morris said. “My goal was to write for the educated lay person. It’s not written for a specialist…not for a historian or a theologian.”
Morris, 63, who became an Antiochian Orthodox priest 30 years ago, has written five other books, on Christianity and German history, but those were published under his legal name, Warren Morris.
