A Lake Village, Ark., resident has been appointed by President Barack Obama to the Mississippi River Commission.
Joseph E. Angel, president of Epstein Land Company and Epstein Gin Company in Lake Village, has been appointed to his fourth term as a member of the Mississippi River Commission since 1979.
Each term lasts nine years, and members of the MRC are nominated and appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate.
The MRC was created in 1879 with the purpose of improving navigation, preventing destructive floods and facilitating commerce along the Mississippi River.
As a member of the commission, Angel will recommend policy and report changes or modifications on the river.
