Initial bond has been set at $300,000 for a Vicksburg man accused of the armed robbery of narcotics Tuesday from Battlefield Discount Drugs, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Stanley Hearon, 55, 115 Ridgelawn Drive, faces multiple criminal charges filed by Vicksburg police, and has also been charged by Warren County officials with telephoning a bomb threat to River Region Medical Center shortly before the robbery.

Police have charged Hearon with kidnapping, armed robbery and possession of Schedule II drugs. County deputies have charged him with false reporting of an explosive device and arson.

Hearon is believed to have phoned a threat to the hospital’s operators around 6 p.m. and then set a fire in a first-floor restroom trash can as a diversion for the drug robbery a few minutes later at the pharmacy at 3040 Indiana Ave.

He was captured in a wooded area behind the store by Vicksburg police at 6:44 p.m. A handgun and drugs matching those reported stolen were recovered nearby a few minutes later.

On the city charges, Hearon’s bond was set Wednesday afternoon by Municipal Judge Nancy Thomas, Stewart said — $125,000 for kidnapping, $125,000 for armed robbery and $50,000 for the drug charges.

Sheriff Martin Pace said that Hearon was to have an initial hearing on the county’s charges this morning before Judge Johnny Price, at which time a second bond amount could be set.

Hearon remained in the Warren County Jail.
