Services for Walter L. Jones Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Mount Elem M.B. Church with the Rev. Leonard Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with family present from 5 until 6.

Mr. Jones died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Promise Hospital. He was 85.

He was born in Bovina to the late Lucius and Geneva Jones. He was a member of New Mount Elem M.B. Church, where he served on the deacon board. He served in the Army from 1946 until 1948 and retired from the Corps of Engineers in 1988.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia J. Scott.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Katie M. Jones of Vicksburg; one son, Walter L. Jones Jr. of Jackson; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including Leon Williams and Lucius Jackson.
