On the last day of 2010, a year that has brought snow and deadly tornadoes to western Mississippi, the weather forecast calls for another damaging storm to hit Vicksburg and Warren County.

Severe weather is forecast for the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, bringing severe thunderstorms with potentially damaging winds and large hail, the National Weather Service said.

“For Vicksburg, the leading edge of the squall line should pass through between noon and 4 or 5 p.m. tomorrow with possible straight-line, damaging winds and very heavy rain,” said meteorologist Jared Allen of the Jackson NWS office. “The strongest winds and rain potential of the storm will probably pass quickly, but some rain will continue to fall overnight.”
