George Alvin McAnn

BOSSIER CITY, La. — George Alvin McAnn, formerly of Vicksburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, in Bossier City. He was 88.

Mr. McAnn was born in Haughton, La. He served in the Army’s 13th Traffic Regiment, European Theater, in World War II and was awarded campaign medals for Northern France and Rhineland. He retired in 1983 from Illinois Central Railroad.

He was a Mason for more than 50 years with membership in both the Haughton and Temple lodges. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, earning the pinnacle 33rd degree and York Rite and receiving the Gold Award for service.

Mr. McAnn was a member of Bossier’s Clean City Committee and a life member of Keep Bossier Beautiful.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eliza McAnn; and two brothers, Robert and Joe McAnn.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Auter Hanisee McAnn of Bossier City; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services with Masonic rites will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Saturday until the service.
