Sidney Lee Carpenter Sr.

Sidney Lee Carpenter Sr. died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 76.
Born Feb. 10, 1934, in Tibbie, Ala., Mr. Carpenter was the son of the late George Carpenter and Viola Akridge Carpenter. He was a veteran.
Mr. Carpenter retired in 1995 from Simpson Dura-Vent. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lottie Mae Dees Carpenter; three children, Sherry Cahill (Dennis) of Madison, Ala., Jackie James (Sammy) of Vicksburg and Sidney L. “Randy” Carpenter Jr. (Edwina) of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Mark Cahill, Matthew Cahill, Shawn Culbertson, Christopher James, Chad James, Joshua Carpenter, Richard McCaa, Brandy Carpenter and Lee Carpenter; six great-grandchildren, Luke Cahill, Cash Cahill, Tori Culbertson, Maddy Culbertson, Kaleb Culbertson and Emma Grace Carpenter; five sisters, Mildred (Midge) Heinz, Frances Dees, Darlene Roper, Kay Turner and Debbie Becker; five brothers, Charlie Carpenter, Jimmy Carpenter, Sonny Carpenter, Harold Carpenter and Larry Carpenter; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lorraine Reynolds Carpenter; and three brothers, George F. Carpenter, Douglas Carpenter and Curtis Carpenter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Kent Campbell, pastor of Woodlawn Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mark Cahill, Matthew Cahill, Shawn Culbertson, Joshua Carpenter and brothers-in-law, Eugene Dees and Melvin Dees.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Woodlawn Baptist Church and James Alexander and Robert Smith.
