James Brown, 12, right, and Elliot Wojtala, 13, look at historic photographs Tuesday during the first day of Spectrum at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center. Spectrum is a free monthlong summer arts program for 10- to 16-year-olds funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The students will learn about photography, writing, art, music and drama during the four weeks. James is the son of Esta Funderburk and Larry Washington. Elliot is the son of James and Karen Wojtala.
