Francis J. Henegan

CLINTON – Francis J. “Gene” Henegan died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 86.

Born in Vicksburg, he was the son of the late William Thomas Henegan Sr. and Frances Griffing Henegan.

Mr. Henegan was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg and a veteran of World War II.

He was a retired employee of Crouse-Hinds Lighting Company. After retirement he volunteered at Mercy Regional Medical Center and, after moving to Clinton, he volunteered at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center from 1998 to 2012 and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2011.

A former member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Vicksburg, he was the longtime director of the Confraternity Christian Doctrine (CCD) and, at the time of his death, was a member of Holy Savior Catholic Church in Clinton.

He is survived by two daughters, Alice H. Weathersby (Charlie) of Clinton and Cathy H. St. Mary (Kevin) of Yorktown, Va.; a son, Frank Henegan (Heather) of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, Jake and Russell Weathersby, Lauren, Hilary and Hannah St. Mary and Kate, Emma and Jack Henegan; and a brother, Richard Henegan (Charlotte) of Atlanta, Ga.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Monte Dykes Henegan; and a brother, William T. Henegan Jr.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Clinton with the Rev. Thomas McGing, pastor, officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the service and in Vicksburg at Riles Funeral Home tonight from 5 until 7 with a wake service at 6:30. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Barry Whites and his staff for the long-term care of their father and grandfather.

Pallbearers will be Craig Harrell, Bobby Harrell, Franz Barnes, Herman Cooper, Jack Gleason, Joe Mraz and Jim Terry.

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
