Two Texas men were charged with possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop on Interstate 20 Saturday afternoon, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Luis Ceballos, 44, 3937 Classic Drive, Garland, and Edgar Hernandez, 29, 12834 Lincoln Ridge Lane, Houston, occupants of a Ford Ranger pickup that did not have a tag, were pulled over around 5 p.m. by deputy Brandon Jones. It was not clear who was driving the truck.
As he approached the car, Jones noticed a plastic bag containing several grams of a white powder had been placed in an air conditioner vent, the sheriff said.
The powder tested positive for cocaine, said Pace.
After obtaining a search warrant, the pickup was towed to the Warren County Jail where investigators were searching it Saturday night.
Ceballos and Hernandez are believed to be in the country illegally and officials with Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a hold on them, said Pace. They are being held without bond in the jail.
The arrests followed by three days charges filed against three illegal immigrants accused of trafficking more than 20 pounds of methamphetamine on Interstate 20 East near Bovina.
The ice variety of meth is valued at about $250,000, an official said. Ice is a potent form of meth that resembles shards of ice or glass. It is commonly manufactured in large laboratories in Mexico and smuggled into the United States.
The three men — Mardomia Diaz, 36; Leonel Serrano-Piedra, 22; and Transito Monrroy-Garcia, 44 — were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Bond was denied for the three, each of whom listed an address as Austin, Texas.
City woman faces drug possession charge
A Vicksburg woman was charged with possession of a controlled substance Friday, jail records showed.
Tashika Sanders, 22, 320 Fisher Ferry Road, Apt. 241, was arrested by Vicksburg police at 4:36 p.m. in possession of ecstasy. No further details were available.
Sanders was being held on a $15,000 bond, but also had a hold placed on her by the Mississippi Department of Corrections, jail records showed.
La. man returned to face county charge
A Louisiana man was extradited to Warren County Friday to face charges of embezzlement under contract, jail records showed.
Brandon Irby, 31, 107 Norris Lane, West Monroe, was arrested by Ouachita Parish officials who executed a warrant that had been issued by the Warren County Circuit Court in 2008 when Irby did not report to court following an indictment by the grand jury.
Irby was arrested in May 2008 when a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant rented in Irby’s name from OK Cars, 1460 S. Frontage Road, was found abandoned in Monroe, police said at the time. The vehicle had been reported rented but not returned.
