United Way agencies seek help this season

The United Way of West Central Mississippi helps fund 23 nonprofit agencies, all of which depend on donations. This holiday season, keep this wish list in mind.

• Holiday items — Paper products for Christmas parties, Christmas books and coloring books, colors, markers, treats and favors for parties, candy, candy canes, indoor and outdoor decorations for Christmas, wrapping paper and tape, scrap material for costumes.
• Food — Snacks for children including pudding, granola bars, goldfish, cookies, etc. Canned goods (especially canned meats), staple items such as rice, sugar and crackers. Frozen turkeys or hams, fresh fruits and vegetables such as sweet potatoes, apples, oranges, tangerines and pears.
• Gifts and clothing for children — New unwrapped toys including baby dolls for ages infants through 12, games, cars and trucks, stuffed animals, balls of all kinds, books, children’s clothing sizes newborn through youth small, including pajamas, coats, underwear, socks, hats, and gloves and monetary donations for purchase of toys and clothing.
• Miscellaneous — Baby wipes, paper towels, toilet paper, Kleenex, cleaning supplies, latex gloves, Lysol disinfectant spray, hand sanitizer, bleach, Pine-Sol, copy paper, sharpies, pens, pencils, large and regular-sized crayons, wide-ruled notebook paper, small refrigerator, crib sheets, children’s-sized blankets, bath towels and wash cloths.
• Seasonal Volunteer Opportunities — Helping check in Christmas toys Dec. 17; giving out presents Dec. 18 beginning at 8 a.m.; reading to day care classes, helping with Christmas parties and with the Christmas program at 6 p.m. Dec. 11; helping wrap presents Dec. 14 and 17; and doing light repair work, painting, yard work.
