Mary Louise Harris

Mary Louise Harris died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at her residence. She was 93.
Born in Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Aloysius Gamble Sr. and Sarah Ernestine Hennessy Gamble. Mrs. Harris was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy in the Class of 1935. She was formerly employed as a floral designer with Broome’s Florist and served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II in the Little Rock and Vicksburg offices. She later was a cashier with Sears-Roebuck Company at Battlefield Mall prior to her retirement in 1980.
Mrs. Harris was a lifelong communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Louise Miller, Glory Griffin, Ellen Carter, Peggy Demeranville and Shantoya Griffin for their love and care of Mrs. Harris.
Mrs. Harris is survived by two sons, Dreher Harris (Peggy) of Oxford and Preston Harris (Paullette) of Mooresville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Anna Claire Harris and John Preston “Pres” Harris Jr., both of Mooresville; two sisters-in-law, Mary Dudley Harris of Vicksburg and Donna Carter Harris of Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Harris Sr.; two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Gamble Conway and Anna Claire Gamble; and her brother, A.A. “Bud” Gamble Jr.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Patrick Farrell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be at St. Paul Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of the service. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, 713 Crawford St., Vicksburg, MS 39180 or to Vicksburg Catholic School, 1900 Grove St, Vicksburg, MS 39183.
Pallbearers will be Jim Park, Watson Marsalis, Sam Andrews, Jim Conway III, Johnny Lowery and Pres Harris.
