A Vicksburg man lost part of his foot Tuesday after being struck by a train near downtown.
At about 3:15 p.m., a Kansas City Southern Railway train hit Eddie Vaughn, 58, who lives on Pearl Street, as he was on tracks near Mulberry and Depot streets, said Vicksburg Police Deputy Chief Bobby Stewart.
A part of Vaughn’s foot was cut off in the accident, Stewart said.
Vaughn possibly tripped on the tracks while attempting to cross on foot as the train approached, Stewart said.
A representative from Kansas City Southern reported the indident, Stewart said.
Vaughn was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center at around 4:30 p.m., Stewart said.
UMMC did not list Vaughn as a patient this morning, hospital spokesman Gary Pettus said.
