Flames and heavy heat charred a one-story house in Warren County on Thursday, volunteer fire officials said.
The metal-roof home at 4571 Haley’s Point Road was a total loss after a fire sparked from a stove in the kitchen, Warren County Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs said. Windows were blown and several pieces of furniture melted in the heat generated by the fire, which was reported to emergency officials at about 12:30 p.m.
Ora Davis, 70, who lived there, and a nephew were inside the home when the fire broke out. Both escaped without major injury. Davis was taken-in by neighbors, who offered her towels and other necessities.
Volunteers with the Culkin, Bovina and Fisher Ferry fire departments responded to the blaze. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the family, Briggs said.
