VTG to present banking comedy

Handling the cash drawers and balancing the bank vault seems to be an easier job to manage than succeeding with the men and the relationships in the lives of “Five Tellers Dancing in the Rain,” the Vicksburg Theater Guild’s latest offering.
The production will open at 2 p.m. Sunday and will be directed by Garrett Wallace.
Wallace has been with the VTG since 1993, he said, and has directed more than 17 productions.
“This is one of the plays that I wanted to do,” he said. “I think it will catch people by surprise. It’s a funny little play, while also having serious parts.”
The two-act play was written by American playwright Mark Dunn and is set in a North Mississippi Bank.
“It is set in the break room of the bank during six consecutive weekday mornings,” said Glenda Arredondo, who plays Delores Bogatin.
“My character lost her home in a fire and her husband and his mistress also died in the fire,” Arredondo said laughing and adding that the play does have some adult humor.
Beth Martin plays Betina Embree, a fortysomething who still dates around, Arredondo said. Sonia Arredondo plays Twyla Tobias, a young mother whose husband has fallen out of love with her and has left her and their son to fend for themselves without any financial support.
“It is a comedy,” said Arredondo, “but there are also some heavy drama scenes too.”
The reaming characters are Jennifer Duck, played by Jai Dobson and Lorene Lee, the head bank teller who is played by Dorothy Wallace.
Shows will also be offered at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through May 10 and at 2 p.m. May 11.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for ages 55 and older, $7 for students age 13 and older including college students and $5 for ages children 12 and younger and are available at the Cricket Box, 3040 Halls Ferry Road, Paper Plus, 1318 Washington St., at the door and on the web site at www.vicksburgtheatreguild.com.
