Meeting Monday, the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen:

• Learned about 10,000 people attended RiverFest during April 25 and 26.

• Received an update on the summer’s first Vicksburg Farmers’ Market, which attracted about 400 people visiting 12 vendors.

• Received an update on events at the Vicksburg Convention Center.

• Took the following bids under advisement: BJ’s 8 to work the men’s and women’s concession stands at Halls Ferry Park; Tri-Miss Services Inc. of Jackson to purchase scrap metal declared surplus by the city. Both bids were by line item.

The city received no bids on used carpet at the Vicksburg Convention Center and authorized City Clerk Walter Osborne to re-advertise.

• Approved a resolution applying for the 2014 $27,451 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. The grant funds are split between the Vicksburg Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department. The police department will use the money to buy tasers, City Attorney Nancy Thomas said.

In a related matter, the board authorized grants administrator Marcia Weaver to serve as the city’s agent for the grant and signed an interlocal agreement with the county to share the grant funds.

• Amended the city’s abandoned vehicle ordinance to follow state law.

• Adopted a resolution approving an E-911 interlocal agreement to hire four part-time dispatchers and to require city and county approval of any plan by 911 to hire more dispatchers.

• Approved modifications to the city’s automobile insurance policy. Thomas said the city’s insurance committee approved dropping all city vehicles valued at less than the insurance policy’s $25,000 deductible. She said the move will save the city about $6,000 a year on premiums.

• Awarded a contract to Smith Lawn Care Inc. of Vicksburg to cut city rights of way. The company had the low bid of $6.19 per lot. Walker Lawn Care of Vicksburg was the other bidder at $7 per lot.

• Declared the city’s ambulance No. 70 surplus property and authorized trading it in to Peach State Ambulance Inc. of Tyrone, Ga. Peach State Ambulance is mounting a new box on another city ambulance.

• Authorized Mayor George Flaggs Jr. to sign an application for a diagram and firing site with Zambelli Fireworks for the July 4 fireworks show.

• Approved $60 for advertising in the Vicksburg High School and Warren Central High School football programs.

• Granted a 90-day extension to the owner of property at 1414 Fayette St. to allow time to remove a house.

The board authorized Community Development Director Victor Gray-Lewis to clear and clean property at 1917 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

• Approved paying $909.33 to the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport.

• Approved adding Vicksburg Municipal Airport employee Samuel Washington to the city employee driving list.
