W.E. Johnson Sr.

W.E. “Bubba” Johnson Sr. died Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Promise Hospital of Vicksburg. He was 82.
Born in Vicksburg, he was the son of the late Johnny Baron Johnson and Elizabeth Sanders Johnson. He was a graduate of Culkin High School and a master carpenter and cabinetmaker.
He loved music, especially playing the piano and singing with several groups. At age 70, he started playing the drums.
He is survived by two sons, William E. “Bud” Johnson Jr. (Valeria) of Vicksburg, and Joseph Eric “E. J.” Johnson (Kristy) of Madison; a grandson, William E. “Hunter” Johnson III, and a granddaughter, Miller Elizabeth Johnson.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Betty Miller Johnson; his stepmother, Mildred Johnson; four sisters, Emma Hickman, Hilda Culkin, Chesley Englade and Matt Calisle; and three brothers, Johnny Johnson, Vivian Johnson and Jimmy Johnson.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Carlisle, Sonny Hickman, Fred Englade, Steve Carlisle, Tommy Carlisle, Gary Hickman, Barry Hickman and Gil Culkin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Johnson, Paul Johnson, Randy Johnson, Bobby Johnson, Ray Johnson, Chris Williams and Mark Englade.
