PEARL — The Vicksburg Missy Gators left Pearl with a golden glow about them Monday.

The Missy Gators won state championships in three events and medaled in two others at the Class 5A state track meet at Pearl High School.

Breanna Foy won in the long jump, Tymesha Nabors in the 300 meter hurdles, and the 4×100 meter relay team of Mikayla Banks, Keiyana Gaskin, Destiny Allen and Nabors also brought home gold.

Foy got the ball rolling with her convincing victory in the long jump.

The Alcorn State signee leaped 18 feet, 3 inches, 4 1/2 inches better than runner-up Catera Watson of Canton.

“I hit the board and I ran hard, so that helped me out,” said Foy, who also finished fourth in the triple jump. “It feels good, because last year everybody thought I was going to win and I ended up coming up short. This year, I had to prove to myself and others that I could do it.”

In the 300 meter hurdles, Nabors matched Foy in her dominance. The sophomore obliterated the field with a time of 44.83 seconds, 2.02 seconds ahead of runner-up Shamara Grover of Natchez.

“My adrenaline was rushing, so I went for it,” Nabors said. “I know I can do better, but when I got on the straightaway, the third hurdle I kneed it and it kind of threw me off.”

The 4×100 relay team, which consisted of a freshman and three sophomores, also had an easy time of it.

While West Jones and Canton battled for second — West Jones won by .01 seconds — the Missy Gators pulled ahead on Gaskin’s second leg and stayed there. They won by one second to earn a victory they said they knew was coming for weeks. They went undefeated throughout the four rounds of postseason meets.

“We knew in district we’d win,” Gaskin said. “We just kept our composure.”

The Missy Gators’ other relay teams didn’t fare quite as well. The 4×200 meter team finished seventh, and the 4×400 team was fourth, six seconds behind bronze medalist Pearl.

The Missy Gators finished fifth in the team standings with 54 points. Canton won with 94.
