Martha Jean Walker

Martha Jean Walker died Saturday, May 10, 2014 at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 78.
Ms. Walker was born and reared in Sunflower County and lived a number of years in Washington County before making her home in Vicksburg for the past 35 years. She was an active member of Southside Baptist Church in Vicksburg where she taught Sunday School as well as being president of the class. She was also an active member of Parkview Baptist Church in Leland. An artist and creative writer, her mission was to send cards for all occasions to people.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Walker of Vicksburg; her daughter, Kim Barnes (Russell), of Vicksburg; her sons, Jimmy Chambers (Charlotte) of Greenville, and Stacy Walker (Penny) of Maricopa, Ariz.; her sisters, Libby Steelman, of Leland, and Brenda Wassman of Long Beach, Miss.; two brothers, James Waid, of Appling, Ga., and Bob Waid of Booneville, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, Sonya Patton, Missy Hayles, Mark Chambers, Katrina Shirley, Aubrey Shirley, Hayden McCain, Jordan McCain, Sally Southall, Jen Barnes and Markie Barnes; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Clemts, Pastor, officiating. Visitation is at 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.
