Rolling Fork murder suspect arrested

A Hazlehurst man accused of murder in Rolling Fork and shooting at Hazlehurst police was held in the Warren County Jail this morning.

Brandon Gilmore, 22, 1069 James Lane, Hazlehurst, was arrested Monday night by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation after a shootout with Hazlehurst police and brought to the Warren County Jail.

As Hazlehurst police were attempting to arrest Gilmore on Monday night at a gas station, he opened fire, Hazlehurst Police Chief Chief Bryon Smilley said.

Gilmore is accused of murder in the death of Eric Williams, Rolling Fork Police Chief Cordell Hughes said.

Williams, 39, was found in the carport of his home March 30.

Investigators have said four men entered the victim’s home and assaulted Williams’ girlfriend. Three young children were inside at the time of the attack. They were not injured.

Williams’ girlfriend said that whoever killed Williams identified themselves as police when they came in the house.

 

Accused drug dealer nabbed

A Vicksburg man accused of selling drugs was held without bail this morning.

Joseph Dobbs, 20, 780 U.S. 61 North, Apt. 9, was arrested at 7:30 p.m. at his home and charged with sale of a controlled substance, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

Dobbs’ arrest came after an undercover drug operation on May 28, Williams said.

He was held without bail this morning in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility.

 

Traffic stop leads to meth arrest

A Warren County man accused of having methamphetamine was held without bail this morning.

Fred Stacy Lynn, 52, 2316 LeTourneau Road, was arrested Tuesday night after a traffic stop, Warren County Lt. Randy Lewis said.

During the stop, deputies recovered a small amount of meth, Lewis said.

Lynn was held without bail this morning in the Warren County Jail.

 

Man held in DUI case

A Vicksburg man accused of drunk driving was held without bail this morning.

Michael Kemp, 32, 1429 Weems St., was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. today in the 1400 block of High Street and charged with DUI, third offense, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

Kemp was held without bail in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility this morning.

 

Burglars hit six storage units

An assortment of items was missing this morning after burglaries into six storage units in Vicksburg.

At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, four storage units were reported broken into at Wisconsin Avenue Mini Storage, 3434 Wisconsin Ave., and property was missing out of three of the units, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

Items stolen from the units include tools, air conditioners, surveillance cameras and golf clubs, she said. The combined value is about $5,000.

At 10 a.m., a 62-inch television valued at $2,200, and assorted deejay equipment valued at $3,100 was reported stolen from Indiana Self Storage, 3040 Indiana Ave., Williams said.

At 1:30 p.m., two antique rocking chairs and an antique sewing machine were also reported missing from Indiana Self Storage, she said. The antiques have a combined value of $400.

Additionally, a 32-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol was reported stolen from a 2008 Ford in the 2500 block of Drummond Street at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Williams said.

 

Shoes missing after break-in

Two pairs of running shoes were missing this morning following a break-in on Canterbury Hill Road.

At 7:30 p.m., a pair of black and pink Nike shoes and a pair of Nike training shoes with a combined value of $140 were reported stolen from a home in the 100 block of Canterbury Hill Road, according to Warren County sheriff’s records.
