Two former prison guards and two Warren County men were indicted this week for separate plots to smuggle phones, tobacco and drugs into Issaquena County Correctional Facility.

Former prison guards Karrell McCoy, 22, 514 North Gate Circle, Rolling Fork, and Sammy Cubit, 38, 178 Main Circle, were arraigned this week by Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick after indictment by a Issaquena County grand jury for bringing contraband into the prison.

Patrick set separate trials for both men for Jan. 25.

“They have since been fired,” Assistant District Attorney Angela Carpenter said.

McCoy and Cubit were both guards at the prison in December when they are accused of smuggling in 11 cellphones, nine cellphone chargers, more than 2 pounds of tobacco, and several Black and Mild cigars, according to the indictment against them.

Both guards are accused of bringing in the contraband items in their jackets, before giving the jackets to inmates to drop off at locations around the prison.

Chris Green represents McCoy and McLain Walker represents Cubit.

Two Warren County men were also arraigned this week after being indicted by an Issaquena County grand jury for attempting to smuggle a back of marijuana into the prison.

Timothy Baker, 32, 1617 Jackson St., and Donnell Judge, 37, 71 Mingos Road are accused of dropping off a bag of marijuana outside a restricted area of the jail on May 25, according to the indictment against them.

A resident at a park across the street from the prison noticed them leaving the marijuana, according to their arrest affidavits.

Patrick also set trial dates for Baker and Judge for Jan. 25.

Green also represents Baker, and Walker also represents Judge.
