The Vicksburg Missy Gators had plenty of opportunities to roll over, quit, and lose on Tuesday.

They didn’t take any of them.

The Missy Gators came from behind four times before finally taking the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning, and beat Ridgeland 9-8 in their slow-pitch season opener.

Chelsea Myers had two hits for Vicksburg, including a two-run triple that tied the game at 8. She then scored what turned out to be the winning run when Ashley Jones reached base on an error.

Myers’ run gave the Missy Gators their first lead of the game. They answered each of Ridgeland’s rallies with one of their own, but only managed to tie it the first three times they fell behind.

“We just kept battling and kept battling,” Vicksburg coach Brian Ellis said. “They didn’t die. They kept battling, got some clutch hits, and got the win.”

Breanna Knox went 2-for-3 with a triple, an inside-the-park home run, and two runs scored for VHS. Olivia Oakes was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and started the winning rally with a single. Torrey Daniels drove in two runs with a double.

Madison Central 7, WC 3

Lane Boyer went 3-for-3 with a double, two walks and two runs scored to lead Madison Central past Warren Central (0-1).

Megan Stewart went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for WC. Kasy Cortezie singled, walked twice, and scored two runs.

PCA 15, Veritas 0

Porters Chapel Academy seems intent on making mincemeat of its district opponents this season.

The Lady Eagles (7-6, 2-0 District 4-A) batted around in all three innings, six different players drove in at least one run, and they blasted Veritas (0-3, 0-1) to remain undefeated in district play.

Karley Hinson, Raylee Barwick and Savannah King each had two hits and two RBIs for PCA. Sabrina Embry was 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Pitcher Hannah Embry faced 10 batters in three innings, and struck out five of them. She allowed one hit and one walk.

PCA has beaten its two district opponents, Rebul and Veritas, by a combined score of 30-0. Both games ended after 2 1/2 innings because of the mercy rule.
